Bespoke Glass for Home and Office: What Can Actually Be Made

Ideas 6 min read

Glass is one of the few materials that can make a room feel both larger and more private at the same time. Made to measure, it fits awkward openings, carries decoration and lasts for decades. Here is a tour of the bespoke glass products we are asked for most often — at home and at work.

Glass partitions

A glazed partition divides space without blocking daylight. At home it might separate a kitchen from a living room, or create a study within a landing. In offices it forms meeting rooms and quiet zones while keeping the floor plate open.

Partitions can be clear, frosted to a set height, fully etched or set with stained glass bands. For offices, laminated acoustic glass reduces sound transfer noticeably compared with standard glass.

A good partition answers two questions at once: what should people see, and what should they hear?

Glass doors

Frameless pivot doors, sliding doors, glazed timber doors and steel-framed Crittall-style doors can all be made to order. Any glass in a door must be safety glass, so we use toughened or laminated panes — and if you want stained glass, we either laminate it or seal it inside a toughened unit.

Shower screens and enclosures

Walk-in screens, hinged doors and full enclosures are made from toughened glass, usually with polished edges. Decoration works brilliantly here: a sandblasted pattern at body height gives privacy without a curtain, and coated glass makes everyday cleaning far easier.

Shelves, table tops and worktops

Glass shelving for alcoves and display cabinets, table tops cut to an unusual shape, protective tops for antique furniture — all made to the millimetre. Thickness depends on span and load, and edges can be polished, bevelled or rounded for safety.

Splashbacks and wall panels

Back-painted toughened glass behind a hob or sink is seamless, heat-resistant and simple to wipe clean. It can be any colour, and cut-outs for sockets are made before toughening so the panel fits first time.

Mirrors

Full-wall gym and dance mirrors, antiqued mirror for bars and hallways, bevelled mirrors with leaded borders — mirror is simply glass with a silvered back, so it can be cut, etched and decorated like any other pane.

Decorative and stained glass panels

The most personal pieces of all: a stained glass panel for a front door, a backlit artwork in a windowless room, a screen that carries a family crest or a company logo. These are designed from scratch for each client.

A note for workplaces

In offices, shops and other workplaces, large areas of clear glass need visible markings — often called manifestations — so people do not walk into them. This is a safety requirement, and it is also a design opportunity: an etched pattern, a band of coloured glass or a subtle logo can do the job far more elegantly than a sticker.

Where to start

  • Photograph the space and note rough sizes.
  • Decide what the glass needs to do: let light through, give privacy, reduce noise, protect a surface.
  • Collect a few images of finishes you like.

With that, we can recommend the right glass, the right fixing method and the right level of decoration — and show you samples before anything is made.

Every piece begins with a conversation
